Happy New Year!

While I was at home with family during Thanksgiving break this year, I sat down with my notebook to write down my thoughts from the previous week, including a list of ideas I had been mulling over.

One of these ideas was particularly fascinating to me, but had some technically difficult aspects. Nothing I would be afraid to try to tackle at my full time job, but I have spent years solving a single technical problem at my job before. Not a very appealing side project....

An amazing thing happens, though, when you identify a problem worth solving. You may never actively look for a solution. But there is a part of your subconscious constantly scanning everything that happens to you, every memory, experience, fear, and desire, trying to form bridges between the islands of your understanding. And so it happened that in less than a month, without looking for it, I found the solution to my problem. I decided it was time to start working. Success now is dependent on two things: luck and good process.

It's getting late. Time to go out and celebrate the end of 2007. I think 2008 will be an exciting year.

Beginnings

I have an idea for a new product. I'm pretty excited about it. It's not a huge idea, but it's not a small idea either. If it succeeds, it will be bigger than just the money it makes. And if it fails, you and I will have learned from the process.

I know that I won't be able to do this alone. I will rely on all the advice and direction I can receive, much of which I hope will come from you. I won't be able to tell you exactly what it is, at least not for a while. But the process will be exciting, challenging, and entirely documented here.
